Course Description

This course focused on social determinants of health and healthcare disparities that impact an individual's ability to receive equitable SLP services.  Further, it discussed resources to address these barriers for the SLP community, as well as provided a concrete example of how our guest speaker's medical facility is addressing these barriers.

 Beth joined Lingraphica in 2018. She has experience providing speech and language services for the adult population in the acute, rehab, and home health settings. Beth holds a bachelors in English from Virginia Tech and a Master’s in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Old Dominion University.

Teresa Thompson, MA, CCC-SLP   

Teresa joined Lingraphica in 2020. She has more than 12 years of experience in speech-language pathology and has worked as a speech-language pathologist with adults in acute care, outpatient, skilled nursing, and home health settings. Teresa earned her BSBA from the University of Denver and her Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology from Northwestern University.

Treasyri Williams Wood, SLPD, CCC-SLP  

 Dr. Williams Wood is a proud alumnus of Western Michigan (B.S.), Hampton (M.A.) and Northwestern University (SLPD). As the Director of Clinical Education at DePaul University, she specializes in teaching topics related to advocacy, neural bases of communication and social determinants of health. She enjoys educating fellow professionals, community members and graduate students. She is passionate about developing person-centered interventions for individuals with swallowing, cognitive and communicative deficits as a result of neurogenic dysfunction. She serves as member at large in speech language pathology on the American Speech and Hearing Association Board of Directors and is on the SIG 2: Neurogenic Disorders professional development committee.
