Course Description
The course stressed the urgency of AAC access in emergencies, the need for preparedness, and AAC users’ vulnerability. It covered speech-language pathologists’ roles in disaster readiness, treatment strategies, and AAC-specific resources. It also discussed first responder training by the University of Iowa, its challenges, successes, and community training tips.

Instructional Personnel 

Krista R. Davidson, M.S., CCC-SLP    

Krista is a clinical professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at The University of Iowa. She specializes in the education and supervision of graduate student clinicians in the treatment and evaluation of clients with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) needs across the lifespan. Krista is also the inventor of the mobile application, RescueVoice, an AAC app designed for use by first responders. She enjoys presenting at the local, state, national, and international level on a variety of AAC- and supervision-related topics.  

Relevant Financial Relationships: Krista is a full-time employee at The University of Iowa. She receives a percentage of the profits from the sale of RescueVoice.  

Relevant Non-Financial Relationships: Krista is the co-chair of the Disaster Relief Committee for United States Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. 

 

Teresa Thompson, MA, CCC-SLP   

Teresa joined Lingraphica in 2020. She has more than 12 years of experience in speech-language pathology and has worked as a speech-language pathologist with adults in the acute care, outpatient, skilled nursing, and home health settings. Teresa earned her BSBA from the University of Denver and her Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology from Northwestern University.
