This course has been developed for delivery to speech-language pathologists. It is registered with ASHA for 2.4 CEU.

This course is only available to SLPs who have completed a 24-hour device trial run by a Lingraphica Clinical Consultant.

Learners must use the most updated version of Chrome for all CEU activities on this portal. Using mobile devices or other browsers at any juncture will cause an error in the course completion process.

Enrollments are restricted to SLPs who have participated in and completed a 24-hour AAC device trial with Lingraphica. To learn more about starting a Lingraphica device trial, click here: https://www.aphasia.com/understanding-device-trials/
To get started, download the time log from the link listed in the Resources section. Fill in the time log with all of the time you spent on your device trial. Once you have completed the time log, return to this course and start the process of receiving your CEUs.
You will need to upload a completed and/or scanned PDF of your time log, pass the assessment, and complete the course evaluation in order to receive credit for this course.

This course provides scientific background, reference material showing documented improvement, and demonstration of using Lingraphica speech-generating devices (SGDs) and other products for functional communication and for therapy. Because this course focuses on Lingraphica SGDs and products, it will provide only limited information about alternatives.

Course/Activity Information

Learning Outcomes:
 
Participants will be able to:
  • Perform the basic operations of Lingraphica SGDs that are used in working clinically with persons with aphasia;
  • Demonstrate screening procedure for determining patient appropriateness for using a Lingraphica SGD;
  • Perform the operations of a Lingraphica SGD;
  • Use clinical examples and other support materials supplied with a Lingraphica SGD to help formulate intervention plans, implementation strategies, and associated rehabilitation goals;
  • Discuss available reference materials that characterize main improvement patterns documented among Lingraphica SGD users by aphasia diagnostic categories;
  • Extend and refine over time the strategies for selecting and implementing AAC interventions for adult clients with aphasia, using tools, materials, and support provided specifically with and for a Lingraphica SGD;
  • Develop competence in implementing the communication and treatment functions of a Lingraphica SGD;
  • Be able to correctly identify the basic Medicare requirements for prescribing an SGD for a patient with aphasia and/or apraxia and/or dysarthria.

 

Time-Ordered Agenda:

  • 4 hours: The Lingraphica Operations
  • 5 hours: Identifying Appropriate Patients and Establishing Goals
  • 5 hours: Communication Functions
  • 5 hours: Therapeutic Alternatives
  • 5 hours: SLP Responsibilities

 

Course Completion Requirements 

  • Attendance and/or Completion of Online Lecture
  • Completion of Learning Assessment with a minimum score of 70%
  • Completion of an Activity Evaluation

Jennifer Stanley, MA, CCC-SLP   

Jennifer Stanley joined Lingraphica in 2018. She has experience providing speech and language services for the adult population in acute, skilled, outpatient and home health settings. Jennifer also has early intervention experience providing speech and language services to the 0-3 population in the natural environment. Jennifer holds a BS in speech pathology and audiology and a MA in speech pathology from Ball State University, Muncie, IN.
