Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, participants will be able to:​

  • Describe and explain common misconceptions about eligibility for a device trial. 
  • Identify common barriers in AAC trials. 
  • Explain how to implement AAC in the beginning and middle phase of a trial.  
  • Define the documentation process and what qualifies a patient for a dedicated SGD. 

 

Time-Ordered Agenda

  •   10 minutes: Determining eligibility and assessing 
  •   5 minutes: Common barriers to proceeding 
  •   5 minutes: Clinical support 
  •   10 minutes: How to trial a device 
  •   10 minutes: Case studies 
  •   10 minutes: When to recommend 
  •   5 minutes: “The Report” 
  •   5 minutes: Insurance process and conclusion 

 

Course Completion Requirements 

  1. Attendance and/or Completion of Online Lecture
  2. Completion of Learning Assessment with a minimum score of 70%
  3. Completion of an Activity Evaluation

 

Instructional Personnel 

Sarah Mead, MS, CCC-SLP  

Sarah Mead joined Lingraphica in 2020. She has experience providing speech, language and swallowing services for the adult population in skilled nursing, inpatient, outpatient and home health settings for the past 5 years. She is a Lingraphica Certified Technology Specialist and has extensive experience providing AAC device consults and trials, with a specialty for populations with degenerative diseases. Sarah holds a BS in Communication Sciences and Disorders from La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA and a MS in Speech-Language Pathology from Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ.

Ariel Moniz, M.S. CCC-SLP 

 Ariel joined Lingraphica in 2021. She has experience providing speech and language services for the adult population in the skilled nursing facilities, home health, and outpatient settings. Ariel holds a Bachelor’s in Communication and Science Disorders from the University of New Hampshire with a minor in Deaf Studies. She earned her Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology from Brooklyn College.
