Course Description
This course discussed educating future speech pathologists about the principles of AAC for PWA, the capabilities and operations of currently available high-tech devices, and the innovative nature of the field. This course included an interview with Nina Simmons-Mackie about her work as Founding President of Aphasia Access, which brings SLP clinicians together to promote the goals of LPAA.

  • Describe recent developments in Aphasia Access regarding AAC and PWA
  • Identify AphasiaBank resources and activities regarding AAC and PWA

 

Course Completion Requirements 

  1. Attendance and/or Completion of Online Lecture
  2. Completion of Learning Assessment with a minimum score of 70%
  3. Completion of an Activity Evaluation

 

Instructional Personnel 

Richard Steele, PhD 

Richard Steele has been Chief Scientist at Lingraphica since its founding in 1990. Earlier at 

the Palo Alto VA Rehabilitation R&D Center, he was Principal Investigator on the C-ViC project for computers in aphasia rehabilitation. He has published articles in the field in 

Neuropsychologica, Aphasiology, Brain and Language, Stroke, and elsewhere. He holds a BS degree in physics from Stanford University, and an MA and PhD degrees in Slavic languages and linguistics from Harvard University.
