Course Description
This course identified the importance of providing Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) options to patients in the acute care setting. We reviewed patient profiles and AAC strategies that increased safety and independence when hospitalized. A case study demonstrated ways that AAC could improve a patient’s ability to be involved in medical care and ethical decision making.

  3. Describe three AAC resources available to assist in assessment and treatment of dysphagia

Instructional Personnel 

Anna Reeve, MS, CCC-SLP  

Anna joined Lingraphica in 2019. As a speech-language pathologist, Anna has treated adults with communication and swallowing impairments in primarily outpatient settings, with per diem experience in the inpatient setting. She has also worked extensively with the adult neurogenic patient population in multidisciplinary clinics. Anna holds a BS and MS degree from Idaho State University.

Laura Reichl, MS, CCC-SLP  

Laura has been working at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network since 2017. As a speech-language pathologist, Laura has assessed and treated adults in the outpatient neurorehabilitation setting with cross coverage in the inpatient setting and assisted living facilities both in person and via zoom. She also has experience working with adults with complex communication needs including developmental disabilities and acquired disorders. She holds a B.S. degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology with a minor in Spanish and concentration in English as a Second Language and a M.S. degree in Speech Language Pathology from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania.

Teresa Thompson, MA, CCC-SLP  

Teresa joined Lingraphica in 2020. She has more than 12 years of experience in speech-language pathology and has worked as a speech-language pathologist with adults in the acute care, outpatient, skilled nursing, and home health settings. Teresa earned her BSBA from the University of Denver and her Masters of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology from Northwestern University.
