Course Description
This course provided an overview of Parkinson's Disease and associated communication challenges, as well as Lingraphica's communication platform, Hub. Participants gained understanding of disease progression and communication supports. They learned a holistic, person-centered approach to treating Parkinson’s Disease, including clinical presentation, treatment, and psychosocial well-being.

Participants will receive a basic overview of Lingraphica’s communication platform, Hub, as well as other Lingraphica offerings to support their patients with Parkinson’s Disease. Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  1. Define the stages of Parkinson’s Disease and associated communication challenges.  
  2. Describe evidence-based communication interventions, including AAC, for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease.  
  3. Identify one person-centered therapeutic approach to support patients’ communication needs and psychosocial well-being.   

    

Time-Ordered Agenda

  • Introduction: 5 minutes 
  • Parkinson’s Disease Communication Impairments: 15 minutes 
  • AAC for Parkinson’s Disease:  20 minutes 
  • Supporting Psychosocial Well-Being in Patients with Parkinson’s Disease:  10 minutes 
  • Questions & Answers: 10 minutes

Allie Reed, M.S. CCC-SLP  

Allie joined Lingraphica in 2021. She is an adult specialized speech language pathologist and has experience working in acute care, inpatient rehab, and outpatient. Allie has a passion for aphasia and has worked with this population over the past decade. Allie earned her Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology & Audiology from the University of Nevada, Reno and her Master of Science from Northwestern University.

Alexandria Russell, M.S. CCC-SLP  

Alex lives in Philadelphia, PA and brings over 10 years of SLP experience serving adult and senior populations in diverse healthcare settings including home health, tele-therapy and assisted living facilities. She also established The Wynter Wellness Group, the only black, woman owned, SLP practice in Philadelphia solely servicing adults & seniors. As Lingraphica’s Consumer Education Specialist, she is responsible for developing, launching, and maintaining various pieces of educational resources tailored for individuals with communication impairments and their care partners in various stages of their communication journeys. These resources include live webinars, online courses, Virtual Connections/PD Connect Live sessions, and printed/digital information. Alex was also one of the SLPs highlighted in the "Witnessing Their Words" docuseries! She has a passion for health education and advocacy and is an active member in various organizations supporting individuals with communication impairments and underserved populations across Philadelphia.
