Course Description
This 1-hour course defined Primary Progressive Aphasia, including information about different types of PPA. The course reviewed and discussed management of communication and ways to overcome barriers. Attention was given to the person with PPA, as well care partners. The course also looked at customizing LPAA goals to maximize communication using AAC at different stages of the condition.

After completing this course, participants will be able to:​
  • Define and identify PPA, its different forms and how it presents 
  • Conceptualize different ways to utilize AAC in this population 
  • Identify barriers that may occur and strategies to problem solve them 
  • Generate long term and short-term goals based on the Life Participation Approach of Aphasia 
  • Customize a speech generating device to meet their patient’s individualized needs as PPA progresses

  • 5 minutes: Introduction   
  • 5 minutes: Define and discuss PPA  
  • 10 minutes: Video clips demonstrating PPA  
  • 10 minutes: Patient assessment  
  • 10 minutes: Goal setting  
  • 8 minutes: Care partner input and barriers  
  • 7 minutes: Barriers for PWA  
  • 5 minutes: Q & A  

 

Course Completion Requirements 

  1. Attendance and/or Completion of Online Lecture
  2. Completion of Learning Assessment with a minimum score of 70%
  3. Completion of an Activity Evaluation

Teresa Thompson, MA, CCC-SLP  

Teresa joined Lingraphica in 2020. She has worked as a speech-language pathologist with adults in the acute care, outpatient, skilled nursing, and home health settings. Teresa earned her BSBA from the University of Denver and her Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology from Northwestern. University.
